Course in July 2012

Thirteen teachers from Croatia, Greece, France, Turkey, Italy, Romania and Belgium met from 2-7 July 2012 in the Leuven Institute to work on creating educational video materials as part of the course "Using Video to Support Lifelong Learning". This residential training course is aimed at trainers and teachers who would like to find out more about using video to support their teaching activities and covers the use of existing video as well as the creation of their own materials.

Highly interactive course. It gave us hands-on experiences on the whole process of video creation. I enjoyed very much the editing section plus the section on copyright issues. It was very illuminating.

After the participants presented their background and country or region, our experienced trainers introduced the participants to the use of video in an educational context and the work involved in preparing, producing and publishing videos. Before starting work in small groups, each participating teacher took up the challenge of editing a practice video on his/her own. During the week the participants made a tour of Leuven in which they found out about the history, the architecture and the balance between old and new in this centuries old university city.

The teachers also had the opportunity to visit the Future Classroom Lab at the European Schoolnet’s premises in Brussels, which is a fully equipped, reconfigurable, teaching and learning space which has been designed as a “Living Lab’ for how ICT can be implemented in schools and where policy makers, ICT suppliers, teachers and educational researchers can come together to rethink the relationship between technology and education, engage in workshops, and develop new economic models to facilitate the roll-out of innovative classrooms like the future classroom on a large scale.

At this moment I don't have any suggestions to improve this course, I feel really satisfied about what I'm bringing home with me.

The participants then worked in small groups on their educational videos from scratch and eventually a presentation of their outputs took place on Friday 6 July during a screening at the training location, followed by a small reception.

The dinner we took together out in the city of Leuven was the beginning of a nice friendship.
