Over 60 particpants from 16 different countries attended the REC:all Lecture Capture workshop 2013

January 6, 2014

The second edition of the REC:all Lecture Capture workshop was held on Wednesday 11 December as a pre-conference of the Media & Learning Conference 2013. The workshop was held in the state of the art AGORA Learning Centre of KU Leuven in Belgium, where the innovative Flexispace offered 61 participants from 16 different countries a space to listen, discuss, collaborate and network all in the same place.

This year the theme was on “Moving beyond the pilot stage: large-scale implementation of lecture capture in European Higher Education” and included presentations with speakers from all over the world showcasing their experiences developing  and using large-scale lecture capture systems at their institutions. After the rich presentations in the morning, the afternoon was set aside for discussion and in-depth sessions. Pedagogy, technology and legal parameters were discussed in a World Café format.

A panel discussion provided an opportunity for participating technical suppliers and solution integrators (Echo360, TechSmith, Panopto, MediaSite, Opencast Matterhorn) to share their views on future technological developments and possibilities that lecture capture and video in education can offer. Finally expert sessions on Translation (transLectures), Mass-Storage (MediaMosa) and Copyright were held in the afternoon, while some of participants took a guided tour to learn more about the AGORA Learning Centre philosophy.

The day ended with a presentation of the new Media & Learning Association which plans to take over some of the activities the REC:all project (workshops, webinars, network building). The intensive workshop day finished with a small reception. Photo's of the workshop can be found here, recordings of the morning sessions will be available shortly on the project website: www.rec-all.info.
