We the computer, they the chick oracle

A widespread worldview, from which philosopher Wim van Binsbergen takes a distance in his article, is that which distinguishes between the North Atlantic region with its material technology and Africa with its socio-ritual technology. According to such a world image ICT, as eminently characteristic of the technology of North Atlantic modernism and postmodernism, would be alien to Africa. In his article "ICT and Intercultural Philosophy - an African exploration" van Binsbergen emphasises on the contrary how Africans appropriate and localise ICT in their own way, developing practices which amount to an original creative elaboration upon the new technologies.

Wim M. J. van Binsbergen is Professor of the Foundations of Intercultural Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Leiden and Senior Researcher at the African Studies Centre of Leiden.
